CO₂ reduction at Hacker Feinmechanik: Impressive progress from 2018 to 2024
We are pleased to announce that Hacker Feinmechanik GmbH has reduced its CO₂ emissions in the area of electricity procurement to zero for the year 2024. This is made possible by the targeted use of energy attribute certificates (EACs), which document the generation of our electricity requirements from renewable energy sources.
As part of a contract with Summit Energy Services Inc. via our partner Schneider Electric SE, we have acquired EACs amounting to 688 MWh for the calendar year 2024. These certificates originate from plants that generate exclusively solar and wind energy and were issued under the European guarantee of origin system of the AIB (Association of Issuing Bodies).
What are EACs and why are they important?
Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs) – also known as Guarantees of Origin (GO) in the European context – are official proof that a certain amount of electricity comes from renewable sources. By acquiring these certificates, we ensure that for every kilowatt hour of electricity we consume, an equivalent amount of green electricity has been fed into the grid.
Another step towards climate neutrality
The use of guarantees of origin is an important part of our sustainability strategy. Fully offsetting CO₂ emissions from electricity consumption brings us a big step closer to our goal of climate-neutral production. At the same time, we want to set an example – for a responsible industry and a sustainable future.
We would like to thank our partners Summit Energy Services and Schneider Electric SE for the successful implementation and look forward to continuing to focus on green energy in the coming years.
Significant progress
Between 2018 and 2024, we succeeded in reducing our CO₂e intensity per sales unit by 94%.
This development was supported by targeted investments in energy efficiency (including LED lighting), process optimization (including optimization of compressed air and heating) and the consistent switch to electricity from renewable sources, including the installation of additional PV systems for self-consumption.
